Almost two years ago I designed the Autumn Moods Placemat, using the filet technique. This is an extension of the Autumn Moods Coaster. Filet has always caught my fancy and the placemat was my first filet pattern. However due to a variety of situations, the pattern for the coaster got released earlier and the placemat has just found it's way out. You can read about my fascination with filet over here!
The placemat and coaster reflect the falling leaves as the season changes. Though in India we do not technically have a season called Autumn, the leaves on our almond tree turn red every October and fall to the ground - our version of the New England Autumn and my inspiration for this design.
These placemats and coasters can make a beautiful set. Made as a housewarming gift or a wedding gift, they will make heirloom pieces. They could also be made as individual pieces. The combinations are endless. Once you get the hang of the filet, the pattern works up really quickly. The finer the thread and hook, the more beautiful the design. The pattern also teaches you how to read filet graphs.
Ever so often, I join a group of accomplished designers from over the world and we bring you an array of patterns with a theme. This time, no guesses, the theme is Autumn and it is hosted by the superbly talented Malena Straight of Straight Hooked. 30 days hath September which means 30 designers and 30 patterns coming to you this month. All the patterns are either free or at half price. Each pattern is available at this special offer for just a day. Just take a look at the line up of designers and a sneak peek of the patterns coming up.
So how does this work. you may wonder? The infographic simplifies it all for you. Each day has one featured pattern, you need a code to avail of the offers and each code is only valid for the day. And to get all this going you first have to visit the main post on Straight Hooked's page
