WINTER PROJECTS - THE STYLISH LACY SHAWL!

As the days grow shorter in the Northern Hemisphere and the temperatures start to drop, it seems the perfect time to get your winter wardrobe ready. The Winter Project Pattern Event gives you new patterns to try out, and a head start on your shawls, scarves, and sweaters. "Can one have too many shawls?", is the question I often ask myself, before designing another one. I don't think so!
The Stylish Lacy Shawl started with an idea to make a semi-circular shawl. Like most of my patterns, I like to use simple stitches and put them together in an unusual way to have a unique outcome. With just the three basic crochet stitches and a puff stitch thrown in for good measure, the pattern started to evolve. But I did not like the look of it - it seemed too dense. The idea was to have a light airy shawl. I frogged (the crocheters word for ripping out) it many times over, changing the pattern repeats, placement of the stitches, and the hook size. And finally, I moved up a few hook sizes, to one much bigger than what would normally be used for the yarn. Eureka - it worked!

Once the pattern came together, I was able to complete the shawl in just 4 days! I went with two colours, since sticking to one is always a tough ask for me. However, I am sure the shawl would be just as nice with one colour. This piece is light, airy, and has a beautiful drape, with the edging adding that extra oomph to the finished piece!

My featured pattern is the Stylish Lacy Shawl. The sample pattern uses #3 (DK) yarn which is a Cotton-Acrylic Blend from Vardhman Yarns, it could potentially be made with any yarn, ensuring you use an appropriate hook. The hook needs to be at least 2mm larger than what would normally be used for the yarn. Use one or more colours to make the finished piece as unique as you.
